I’m crazy about RSI Guard Stretch Edition, available at www.rsiguard.com. The software might best be described as a polite, helpful, and nagging ergonomic expert who keeps me comfortable all day.

A superb ergonomic expert and occupational health nurse introduced me to the software, and I’ve used it every day for well over a year now.

After answering several questions posed by the set-up wizard, RSI Guard calculated the frequency of breaks I would need and the stretches I would need to do during each break.

When it’s time for an “ergo break,” a video of someone doing a particular stretch pops up – and the software disables my mouse and keyboard! I can override this, or delay by a few minutes if I’m right in the middle of something, but generally I do the stretches right along with the video, because they keep me comfortable.

It’s been a small investment with a big pay-off.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but instead of recommending a book, class, or video this week, I’m recommending self-care. This is the third cold I’ve had this season and it’s turned into bronchitis. A slip in my usual standard of self-care is to blame. Eat your veggies. Get your exercise. Get some sleep. All the stuff Mom says is true!
